August 27, 2026 - Throwback Thursday - The Phalanx Covenant

Hey there, Adventurers! It's Thursday, so it's time for a Throwback Thursday in the new format where I grab a comic from a comic box and share details about the comic, character, or storyline.

This week, we've got X-Men #37 from the late 1900s. This issue was part of the Phalanx Covenant a multi-part storyline that ran through Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, X-Factor, Excalibur, Wolverine, Cable, and X-Force. The Phalanax are part of an alien race called the Technarchy who have the ability to infect organisims with the Transmode Virus which turns that person into a member of the Technarchy. Cable was infected with the Transmode Virus which is why his arm and shoulder look robotic. He uses his telekenisis to keep the infection from spreading.

The Phalanax Covenant also introduced a set of new mutants who would go on to form Generation X with Jubilee, Synch, Husk, Skin, and Chamber. One of the more popular characters was a mutant called Blink who, unfortunately had a tragic ending in this story, but, don't worry, it's comics. She gets better.
