Our Story: From the Classroom to the Panels
Hey there, Adventurer!
How did Adventures in Ink get its start? Well, I’m glad you asked. It’s been quite the journey—one involving 22 years of red pens, digital pivot tables, and a lifelong love for a good story.
The Educator’s Heart
Before I was a shop owner, I was an educator. For over two decades, I served as a middle school English teacher and an Instructional Coach across Carrollton/Farmers Branch, Round Rock, Pflugerville, and Austin ISDs. When the world shut down in 2020, I was part of the team building the digital bridge for students and teachers to keep learning alive through Zoom and screens.
But as the world reopened, the "old normal" felt different. After years of giving everything to the classroom, I found myself navigating burnout and a shifting career landscape.
The Tech Detour
I decided to reinvent myself. I completed a Digital Marketing Bootcamp at UT Austin and traded the school bell for the tech world at LogicMonitor. I finally learned what it was like to have a lunch break and a stocked break room! But the tech industry has its own "adventures," and a year later, I faced a common modern hurdle: the tech layoff.
The Turning Point
Months of job hunting turned into a season of soul-searching. A trusted friend gave me the push I needed: "If you want a job, why not make your own?"
I returned to teaching briefly to find my footing, but a tragic day at school solidified what I already knew in my heart—it was time to close the textbook and open a new chapter. I needed to create a space that was about joy, community, and the stories that sustain us.
The Birth of Adventures in Ink
I’ve been a comic book reader since I was 12 years old. Those stories taught me about heroism, resilience, and the power of a well-timed "KA-POW!" With the support of my family, we secured the funding, built out the shelves, and stocked them with the heroes I’ve loved for decades.
Adventures in Ink officially opened its doors on February 22, 2025. We just celebrated our first anniversary, and looking back at the community we’ve built, I can honestly say: the best stories aren't just found in the panels of a comic—they’re the ones we live every day.
Thanks for being part of our Year 2. Let’s see where this adventure takes us next!
