December 11, 2025 - Throwback Thursday - The Goon

Hey there, Adventurers! It's another episode of Throwback Thursday where I share a comic or storyline from the "way back" that you might not know about or missed.

Today, I wanted to take a look at Eric Powell's The Goon series from Dark Horse Comics. This was a mix of crime noir/supernatural story elements set in a Depression Era-ish town where different criminal families vied for control of the town. The Goon controlled one area while his enemies controlled other parts, and they were always trying to get rid of one another and take over their territory.

The comics also featured humor and satire, usually expressed through Goon's friend and partner Franky, who absolutely has no filter. It's definitely not a comic book for a kid. It does have graphic violence, and the characters' dialogue is definitely not politically correct. If you're a person with delicate sensibilities, you may not want to check this series out, but if you're a person who likes world-building, interesting characters, and great art, you should definitely check it out.
