May 15, 2025 - Throwback Thursday - Captain America #321

Hello there,
Happy Thursday! It's time for a #ThrowbackThursday. Let's take a look back at Captain America #321.
At the time of publication of Captain America #321, comics were under a type of self-censorship called the Comics Code Authority. It was created as a response to a sketchy and ultimately debunked theory that violent comics books and content made kids more violent from the 1950s. Then it was hippies who corrupted children, then television, then video games, then Dungeons and Dragons, then movies.
Anyway, when Cap #321 came out, most people operated under the assumption that Captain America (A) Didn't use guns and (B) Didn't kill.
In issue #321, Cap did both.
If you thought people screaming about Superman killing Zod in Man of Steel, then you should read the letters people wrote in about Cap.
"Cap would never use a gun!"
"Cap would never kill anyone."
Here's the thing, Cap was in World War II. Sure he used a gun, and I'm sure he killed a few Nazis. But, man, people lost their minds when it happened.
Come on by the shop and check the issue out for yourself!
