May 16, 2025 - Flashback Friday - DC Comics' Super Sons

Hello there, 🎶🎶🎶It's Friday! Friday! Friday! YAY for Friday!🎶🎶🎶 And it's time from a #FridayFlashback.

This week let's go back just a few years to DC Comics' Super Sons. This was a great series that featured a pre-adolescent Jon Kent as the son of Lois and Clark and his counterpart Damien Wayne, Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul's child.

One of the great things about the series was the interplay between Damien and Jon where Damien is serious and strict because he was raised by the League of Assassins, and Jon is rambuncious, reckless, and a little care free. The characterization between the two is what really drove the series and made it such a fun title that was really different than all the other stuff on the shelves at the time.

Peter Tomasi was the writer and had a great handle on the characters. Jorge Jiminez was the penciler, and his anime influenced style really helped make the book look unique. I really enjoyed the series until DC decided it was time to age Jon Kent to a 17-18 year old in a very convuluted story that involved Jor-El (Superman's dad), Dr. Manhattan, multiple realities, and a bunch of other junk. In the end, however, it meant the end of the Super Sons. Boo! Boo! Hiss!

If Super Sons sounds interesting then come on down the shop and check out some of the back issues!
