Hi there, Adventurers! There's a new episode of #ThrowbackThursday.
Let's take a look at a three part Uncanny X-Men story. Spanning issues #207-#209, The Uncanny X-Men are in a down time after a major battle, but one of their own has her own plans. Rachel Summers, the time-displaced daughter of Scott and Jean (Cyclops and Marvel Girl), is in a bad state wandering around New York City.
She revisits a couple of places from when she first arrived from the future, and she remembers that a guy, who was kind to her, had been killed by Selene. Rachel becomes distraught and decides to take revenge and attacks Selene at the Hellfire Club.
Her attack doesn't go as plan. A fellow X-Man intervenes and stops her, but now the Hellfire Club is aware of her existence and powers, and they want her to be a part of their group - whether she actually wants to or not.
Also, her attack caught the attention of the mutant-hunting robot from the future, Nimrod. Virtually unstoppable, Nimrod's programming allows him to analyze a mutant's power and develop a strategy to neutralize or negate their powers. His programming is so advance, that if he's defeated, the program will adapt so that the previous strategy won't work for a second time. It makes it so that each time the X-Men face Nimrod they have to come up with a new, different, and unique way to defeat him.
Eventually, all three parties collide in an epic battle that strains the X-Men's resources, cripples the Hellfire Club, and allows Rachel to slip away and disappear. This all happens at the worst possible time because in the next issues The Marauders arrive at the Morlock Tunnels and the Mutant Massacre begins.
But that's a story for another time.
